2010-Race Reports
My Next Race: TBA
BMX Worlds South Africa.
I got to travel to South Africa to compete in the BMX Worlds. I loved the track but crashed in practise. I was sick with a bug that most of the team got and some still have. The South African's burn all the grass and paddocks which makes heaps of smoke and pollution, so most of us had asthma too! I raced well in 20 and just did not make a great quarter race. My cruiser I had a fast heat and got better as the motos wnet on- I missed on a count back by 1 point. I was really upset. I got to sit in the grandstand and cheer on the Aussies. My mates Hazza and Caroline were on fire and were onto to podium. Hazza made World 1 on both classes, Caro had the worst luck but she is still a legend! Sofiso was the most popular and the showgrounds went wild for him all day! I had the best time, the best holiday and the BEST after party ever! In South Afria kids can have mocktails and sit at the bar! We had a private party in a private pub with the French team! Thanks to all the Aussies at Fern Hill and the great time we had.
Kick Ass Rocky Mountain' 4X and Dual Slalom
I raced the fourcross on my Absolut and won! I had a great time with Stephen Henderson racing with me. Mr "G" was on fire and Josh Rose also got into it!
We raced fourcross in the morning and Dual Slalom in the afternoon. The DS track was a blast and designed Jeff Hughes did real good! Had fun hitting up the track. My time trial time qualified me in with the elites- so I raced some oldies! Sorry fellas! I did not lose a run and won the DS and if I raced elite would have been on the podium!! Thanks again to Martin an Julianna from Rocky Mountain and the best Kick Ass 'Red Ass' Nachos! Again great racing.
Australian National BMX Titles
I had a great week with my team getting ready to race. We knew it was going to be tough on the long track and not being able to ride the track before the meet was also a bit tough. I raced well in my 20" and did get outgunned- but I know I am on track with my racing to peak for Worlds in July. My cruiser races I was on fire but I got to the quarter finals and just got shut down and could not make my way through the pack. I am happy making quarters and showing I can use my head to look for other lines, just need to work on some speed. Paull, Jacob and Erin rocked with plates! Jye and jordy just wer outgunned but never gave up. Great Team, great mates and great fun!
Thanks to my Team Mnager, John and A1 looking after us.
Monster Park 4X
I raced very hard in the very hot heat. I was the only under 13 years men to show and raced with the under 15 men and Elite women. I raced hard and missed my gates early but made up in my cranking. I won my threee motos and waited for my final- again with under 15 men and elite women. In the break it hit up on the mOnster BMX track and jumped heaps-Commencal rocks again and again! Finals called in the heat- I blasted and my gate was my best all day- I raced hard and won the final. Mr G Blasted and so did the Clarke Bros- we all had some fun! My Commencal did not miss a beat- sweet ride!
Southern Zone 2
Had a great race meet and am I getting my BMX leg's back. The day was so hot and fitness played a big role in racing. I had fun with my team mates and Jye who made his final again! My 20' final was good and yep I opened the door and let a few in but I am happy with my result. Cruiser again was blast and loved messin it up with Andrew and Nik.
Australia National Round 4X and Down Hill Stromlo Forest Park
I won the National 4X series for under 15 Men and loved my racing. I have a new 4X bike, Commencal Absolut and cannot wait to race it! Down Hill was a blast and I have finished about 7th in the under 15 Men series. I have had a great time, learnt some new skills and raced some great places. I will now have to spend some time on my BMX and maybe just fit in 4X and Dual Slalom!!
ACT BMX State Titles, Canberra Track.
Well what a great ACT's. I had a good time on a great track. Well done to Canberra Club and especially Dave Shearer, Great ACT track and seems like all love the new track. I got the result, I tried and shows, 3 days with my new DK bike and not much BMX training. I am happy with my result and a big shout out to some great 12 boys riding by Brock, Andy and Jake. I really had fun hanging our with the 12 boys and me and Brodie look like hanging at the 4X. Congrats to all. My team mates Jye killed it in his first ACT's out of sprockets, great final, Ezza just swept the track and unlucky in the last corner, but she's a winner to me, Mr G dug tuff and rode hard. Look out Aussies for the A1 Team!! I need to say thanks to my mechanic 'DOOKIE" again on fire, Mr Manager, A1 John keeps me "high rollin" and Paull helps with the focus ( ok and pain)- thanks Fellas!
Thredbo National Round 4X & DH.
I love racing at Thredbo. This round was WET is just poured.
Friday night was 4X love the racing and was with the girls, Hazza, Danni and Sarsha. I finished third in two Motos and blizzed the girls in the last moto! Ye gotcha girls! Sarsha just laughed cause she could not believe it and Hazza could not catch me! Yeah to the boys!
Downhill was just hell...dirt, mud, wet and it was bad. I did not fall off and had no damage to my sweet ride, The supreme was supreme! (commencal).
Finished 6th in 15 men and could make me about 5th overall in points next race Stromlo. I have to say thanks to my Dad and Mum for being in the rain with me and making sure I was okay, my ride was good. All things mud are now clean! Thanks Mum.
MTBA National MTB Round 2 Shepparton Victoria
I raced at Shepparton in the 4x and Downhill. In National rounds they dont have under 13's so I raced in under 17's in 4x and came fifth!. This got me major points for the Under 15 years series and now I am leading the series!
My mate Max Hughes won under 17 years and now also leads the series and Jordy got third!
I raced downhill on Sunday and came 7th in Under 15years. The track was really short and very technical. Lots of people crashed and found the course very hard. I did not crash but did find the course challenging. I am proud of my result and now am looking forward to Thredbo. I am going back to Shepparton in May for the BMX Aussies and going to Dookie and looking for the rest of the Cows!
XBR series Sydney 2010
Great series of racing at Liverpool, Hawksbury,Manly, Macarthur and Castle Hill tracks. I have never raced so early in the year and it showed at times. I loved finishing at Castle Hill and to take out the Cruiser series for my age group. The heat was really hard to race with at times and the fast and close racing made fro a great series. Well Done Gav and XBR
2009- Race reports
Down Hill, Thredbo December 2009
I Had agreat time being back at Thredbo. I practised Saturday and did 7 runs and loved it! Sunday I raced under 13years on my first run I broke my derailer and hanger- so very slow. Second run I had a blast being chain free! I was fast and came second only by 2 seconds! I had a great time with all the guys, we had a really good time in our lodge playing pool, watching movies and ghosting the road bike!
NSW State Titles, Maitland October 2009
This was my first race back after smashing my ankle. I loved racing didn't like the rain. I raced hard missed the final for 20" by a big crash and braking my neck brace. Cruiser was after the 20" and I think I tried hard but was really sore and just a bit shaky still. Had a great time with my DK team.
World BMX Titles, Adelaide SA, July 2009
Due to an injury I watched the Worlds. This was tough as I could not defend my plate. I am ok now as I watched some great racing and my A1 Bikes Team won three plates; Paull won WORLD 8 in 30+ 20in and WORLD 4 in 30+ Cruiser and Jacob won WORLD 2 in 10 Boys 20". I loved watchin "Slammin Sam Willoughby" win back to back World 1 in Junior Elite and also to see Sarah Walker. My A1 Bikes DK, High Roller Energy Team had our new team photo's done so you will all see the launch in the coming weeks and months. Team Lennock smashed with the first time ever World riders of Ezza and Jordy. They did really well and raced hard. I am hoping they will join me in South Africa.
Bathurst Rampage May 2009
I went to Bathurst and competed in the Bathurst Ramapge- great track, I think my new favourite. This was my first race on my sweet ride, the DK Octane and it was great! I finished 4th in 20" and 1st in Cruiser, but I was peddling soooo hard- I am geared so differently in my training for Worlds! and I was on flats! Thanks to my coach Paull- now called Paullini! He is Paull= Pain and gain! I am learning lots about pain and the gain, its not how big the mountain, or what's on the otherside waiting, but the climb (thanks Miley Cyrus) but not the now in years to come.... This was also the first weekend of filming for the Team Lennock "Road to Worlds Movie" to be released in 2010. My sponsors A1 Bikes and Paull my trainer will be featured as a major support to me and my riding.
Australian National BMX Titles, Perth WA
The track was tight, rough and had big jumps! I raced hard, I had about 90 riders in my 20 "group and we were all trying to qualify for Worlds at the quarters. I was lucky that I plated at Worlds last year with my friend Karlton so we were through. I raced 12 and under in the cruiser- which is UCI rules and I made the final I am 8 Australia! I got a bit sick with a sore throat and stressed my mum and dad- my mum was mostly outside for my racing she gets scared! I watched heaps of great racing and cheered on some great ACT riders, the "Caz" Caroline Buchanan winning Elite woman's and female rider of the year, Jacob Griffiths and Paull Mac from my new Team DK!! See you all at the Worlds in Adelaide!
Southern Zone-Liverpool
I had a great time at Liverpool with Team Lennock. I missed Penrith zone as I went to Port Macquarie to cheer on my Dad at Australian Ironman, and again I got to run to the finish line with him, this is just the best feeling. At Liverpool we raced well even though we were not at race pace getting ready for Aussies. We tried out our new team rollers which is supposed to help us warm up and get us ready to race. We are learning as a team how to be professional and be race ready. It rained a bit which was a bit hard on the start hill but it was okay. I have liked racing up in the 12's and met new people and learned some lessons on how different the riders are in this group. I need to say a big thank you to Lennock Motors Phillip, who look after our team very well. We get to go places that we normally could not do so easily have more fun than you could all imagine ( you all have no idea) and Lennock makes this happen- thanks.
Dual Slalom & 4X Goulburn NSW
I loved the dual slalom and rode my Commencal 'Max Max' single speed which was great fun. I won the event on Saturday ! On Sunday back to Goulburn and raced again on my Max Max and finished second to Joel from Lithgow. We really had fun and got to style it up a bit. We all then went to the Goulburn skatepark and really showed the woodpushers and skaters what stylen it up is about! Thanks to Julia, Martin and Western Sydney Moutain Bike Club- really good days- and great food!
Southern Zone, Castle Hill
I had a great time at Castle Hill, I am riding up in 12 Boys and really learning hard on mixing it and fighting in the pack. I raced well in my motos and finished 7th qualifyer. My final was messy and I got shut out I finished in 6th. My cruiser was just heaps of fun, I love to jump and I love chooks grave at this track. I finished in 2nd place on 12 and under cruiser. Thanks to my Dad and Lennock Motors for heaps of support.
ACT Schools Road Championships, Stephen Hodge park Stromlo.
I missed my normal racing buddy Dylan M but I enjoyed racing new people. I was in under 13 this year- but I am still 10 so go figure. I started well up hill, and because I am strong up hill I led the first lap. We stayed in a bunch and started to split at the start of the second lap. By last lap I was leading but I could feel a sprint coming and another guy just took off and we sprinted to the finish with him taking line honours. I am not to sad to loose my title because I raced well and second place is still strong- silver. I waited for about 25 minutes and I started the lap of fire a 1.2 km sprint, the time trial. I rode tough and dug deep. I remembered something that Paull my coach had told me from an interview he recently had done with an elite athlete, how to race a fast lap. I won by 5 seconds! Gold. This is my third time trial win in three years.
ACT BMX Titles, Tuggeranong ACT.
I raced 11 races over 2 days, 6 on my 20" and 5 on my cruiser. I raced really well through my motos and finished second in my quarter final and in my 20"semi final let all the riders pass me in the first straight. I raced back and finished in 5th but missed the final by one place. My cruiser I tried really hard but did not have enough left and finished in 5th place. I don't think I was on my game on Sunday after a great Saturday. I really missed my friend Nik who I always race against, he broke his wrist in practise and is in plaster for 6 weeks. This is sad. My friend John McLaughlin from A1 Cycles dislocated and fractured his shoulder, he told me at the hospital that he is retired now from racing. I got to spend some more time with my new team, Lennock and our personal coach Paull Mac.
BMX Southern Zone- Southlakes
This is my first BMX race for the year and I am racing up a year in 12 Boys.
I had a great day and this was the first time I raced in my new BMX Kit of Team Lennock Motors. I am very proud of my new sponsor and my new team mates, Erin "Ezza" Butler who won Women's Pro, Jordan "Jordy"Butler who is really a Mr Smooth and is just back from two broken wrists and Harriet Burbige-Smith who I call Hazza. I finished fifth in 12 Boys 20" and second in my cruiser race with a handlebar to the hip, not from me but from really close racing. Thanks to my mechanic on the day Paul, cause my Dad was also busy racing, triathlon getting ready for Ironman and missed my racing and our first team day.
Mountain Bike National Round, Mt Buller Vic, January 2009
This was my first visit to Mt Buller and I did not expect the difficulty of the track from what I had heard. I now have heard that Bryn Atkinson has said its the hardest track in Australia. I am happy with my race, no damage to me or my bike. Thanks to Matt Vincent for walking the track with me and giving me lines, thanks MalAdjusted, Bill from Commencal Bikes, and Team Lennock for your support.
Australian Mountain Bike Nationals, Canberra ACT, January 2009
I finished 17th in the Under 15 Men downhill (28 riders). I have to say thanks to my mechanic Dad, the best bike Commencal! and all my sponsors. See ya in Buller.
